Tess – Momentum Film ‘Why am I Here?’

Posted in: News- Jan 09, 2012 No Comments

Here is the fourth and final Momentum Leadership Course short. This film features Tess Meaker, a 27 year old teacher from Sheffield, UK.

Tess is a teacher at Kelford School, a Special School in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.  Her whole family is involved in teaching, especially teaching disabled children, so disability issues are close to her heart.  Being a special needs teacher means that she has to be a leader both to her students and to a group of support staff, however she has discovered that leadership is quite different for adults compared to children. Going on the Momentum Leadership course has helped to develop her as a leader to adults, and will have a massive impact on her work.

Momentum Film – Jordan ‘Why Am I Here?’

Posted in: News- Dec 07, 2011 No Comments

This is the third film from the set of Momentum Leadership Course shorts, this time featuring Jordan Searcey.

Jordan is a 21 year old college senior at the University of Nebraska, USA.  American culture is very different to that of the UK, and can often be quite insular.  However through travelling and interacting with people from different cultures Jordan has been able to change her outlook and realised that the world doesn’t end outside her country or even her state. Finding value in helping others brings an unexplainable satisfaction to her. Through this she has begun to discover what she is passionate about.

Momentum Youth Development CIC released the third film in the series this week. Working alongside the team at Momentum Voidcomp devised a theme based around the concept of why people would attend the Momentum Leadership course.

Our team devised this concept and took it to its conclusion. We completed principle photography with the 4 participants in 5 days. Production took place all over the country, from the grounds of King’s College London to the Magna Centre in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

In the films the course participants discuss their lives, how they view leadership and how the Momentum course has helped them to develop. The first two films have already been released, they were about Anna and Goran.

Why Am I Here?

One of the reasons the entire team at Voidcomp love what we do is the amazing people we get to meet and work with every day. The team at Momentum are some of the most talented, professional and passionate colleagues we have ever worked alongside.

This relationship has developed over time and we actively consult on all media issues, recently this has included the development of a web video integration package which will be rolled out at www.youthmomentum.org over the course of 2012.

The website will highlight services, testimonials and miscellaneous content through moving images. A part of that involves documenting some of the different programmes Momentum offers.

This summer we produced individual films about four of the participants who attended the Momentum International Youth Leadership Course.

These four participants are Anna Dageretzis from Germany, Goran Boshkovski from Macedonia, Jordan Searcey from the USA and Tess Meaker from the UK. In the films they talk about their lives, how they view leadership and how the Momentum Leadership Course has helped them to develop themselves.

Momentum is a social enterprise focusing on the professional development of young people.  Their International Youth Leadership Course brings together young people from around the world to learn about themselves and to help them develop the skills to form their own international social projects.

Voidcomp produced a 30 min documentary about the 2010 Leadership Course and were then commissioned by Momentum to produce these 4 short films for the 2011 Leadership Course.  Both organisations felt these films needed to be personal, talk less about Momentum and highlight what individuals are getting out of such a dynamic, fast paced and intensive programme.  The films combine multiple locations with an ever changing background and technically challenging production techniques, all with the aim of answering the question “Why am I here?”.  The narrative behind every film is the individual story of each participant.  We explore where the participants are from, how they got to where they are now and what they want to achieve.

This first film is about Anna, a half German half Greek young person studying International Leisure Management in the Netherlands.  She has always been shy and insecure about her skills.  In the film she talks about how the leadership course has helped her gain more self confidence and potentially change her career outlook, allowing her to realise that everything is possible when you really go for something.

Voidcomp recently produced two short films on behalf of the organisation ‘Are You Ready?’. The short films highlight why enterprise is important, including some of the steps and values the ‘Are You Ready?’ campaign is built upon.

Below is the second film in the series, produced by Voidcomp and sponsored by Momentum Youth Development CIC. The film focuses on Claire Young, and how she felt empowered by her education leading to her applying as nearly winning the BBC hit show The Apprentice. She explains what she does as a successful young business woman to empower other young people in her old school.
