Royal Air Force PR
The Royal Air Force’s role, in conjunction with other Defence organisations of the United Kingdom, NATO and other foreign partners is to deliver the UK Defence Vision by defending the UK and its interests, strengthen international peace and stability and to be a force for good in the world. The RAF Reserves is made up of Royal Auxiliary Air Force squadrons across the UK, who employ part-time Reservists to support the wider RAF.
606 Squadron was formed in 1996 as the helicopter support squadron, with 180 Reservists working in diverse areas such as logistics and flight operations.
It is the only RAF Reserves unit that operates with the Joint Helicopter Command. This short promotional film humanises some of the members of 606 Squadron and promotes some of the trades available to Reservists.
Production Notes
606 Squadron regularly deploy on to training areas across the UK to develop skills and operational capabilities. The small production team was embedded with 606 Photographer James Stier, who served as project co-ordinator. The small crew were able to produce short interviews in the field, and capture a wide range of footage from the weekend to create the film.
This involved filming from and underneath helicopters, living with the squadron in the field and supporting other media operations.
Voidcomp provided post production facilities which included the creation of various motion graphic segments and the edit and sound design of the film.
606 Squadron
606 Squadron are based at RAF Benson, Oxfordshire. Their mission is to provide Reservists in ground-support branches and trades to reinforce the Support Helicopter Force within the Joint Helicopter Command.
