In My Shoes
Rawmarsh is a large village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, in South Yorkshire, England. It is two miles north of Rotherham and has a population of 18,210.
Young people’s lives in such an area are often confusing and misunderstood. This 10 minute film speaks directly to Police Officers, MPs, teachers and most importantly local young people, to understand why certain stereotypes exist, and how to improve relations with one another while improving the area they live in.
The result was a gritty and real account that focuses on what young people growing up in a deprived area do, think and feel. The success of the film at various award ceremonies in 2010 is a testament to the hard work the entire group put in to what was very touching and personal journey.
Production Notes
In My Shoes is a short documentary film commissioned by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and Rawmarsh CLC. It was produced by Voidcomp and Pro Consultancy who worked closely with young people from the area.
The producers wanted to show the views and feelings of young people in the community.
This was accomplished by involving local teenagers in the film making process, both in front of and behind the lens. The entire shoot from pre production to the final screen was supported by Voidcomp in a consultancy capacity. This involved placing experienced team members with the crew to form a capable and exciting production unit that delivered skills and practical production training to the young people.
